The piece is set on a mysterious island off Ireland’s west coast and based on Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman. Senta is a young Scottish woman who has fallen in love with Sean in Dublin. We first meet them on the boat to his home place of Inishkill where all is light and romance. But the idyllic West of Ireland gradually takes on a darker hue as Senta discovers the islanders’ obsession with a Dutch pirate and Sean reverts to type under the influence of his widowed mother.
