Carol Moore - Filmaker

Carol co-founded Charabanc Theatre Company in 1983 and remained a co-Artistic Director and actress with the company until its closure in 1995. Charabanc toured extensively throughout Ireland and the UK as well as North America, Russia and Germany. Carol has been an actress for 26 years and was nominated Best Actress in the 1988 European Film Awards for her role as the ‘model’ in Reefer and the Model.  Theatre directing credits include The Liverpool Boat by Maurice Bessman and Marie Jones, 1974 – The End of the Year Show by Damian Gorman, The Factory Girls by Frank McGuinness and Cavalcaders by Billy Roach. She also acted as Creative Consultant to Red Lead Arts from 2002- 2006.

Carol’s first short film Gort an gCnámh won four awards in 1998 including Best First Time Director at the Celtic Film Festival. Carol received a NESTA fellowship in 2005 for two and half years to enable her to explore and develop her ideas surrounding cultural diversity in Northern Ireland, through her practice of theatre and film-making. This work included two shorts entitled Are you seeing me? and This Belfast Thing and 50 minute documentary The Farther, The Dearer about a migrant worker from Latvia which has screened at the Belfast Film Festival,Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the San Joaquin Film Festival, California. Her short film History Unfinished  was the Northern Ireland regional winner of the BAFTA 60 SEC 2008 film competition.

Carol’s first fiction feature Pumpgirl by writer Abbie Spallen was recently previewed at the Belfast Film Festival and will tour festivals in the coming year. Work! Work! Work! is a series of 3 programmes for BBC Radio Ulster about the Polish community in Northern Ireland co-produced by Carol Moore and Christina Captieux and will be broadcast before the summer. Carol is now working on a short film for the “Not Normal” film series commissioned by the Community Relations Council.
